“There is no such thing as a neutral education.”
The modern school system was designed as a tool of empire, a mechanism for colonising the mind. Many of us carry deep imprints from our time in classrooms, stories of conformity, disconnection, shame, and separation from our own ways of knowing and being.
We will delve into the historical context of the modern school system, examining its origins as a tool of colonial expansion. Understanding this history is crucial for recognising the deep-seated patterns that continue to influence our learning experiences today.
We explore how schooling shaped our internal landscapes, the history of modern education as an integral arm of colonisation, and the impact of those patterns on who we are today.
Drawing from experience as a freeschooling mother on a life long journey of decolonisation and the wisdom of rebirthing breathwork, Aimee and Redlyn will explore school as an imprint—something that informs so many aspects of our lives from how we work, create and interact with the world.
We will introduce conscious connected breathing practices as a powerful tool for supporting the deschooling process. You'll be guided through these techniques to create space for new possibilities in learning, relating, and being.
We will explore the concept of learning as a natural, embodied, and liberated process, moving beyond the constraints of traditional schooling.
"Deschooling the Colonised Mind" was created by Redlyn Parker and Aimee Aroha; a co-creation that blends Redlyn’s and Aimee's unique areas of passion and a combined 20 + years of experience in the therapeutic, community care space.
